In November of 2003 I traveled with Bob Madsen to Mali, Africa where we presented Integrated Pest Management poster sets to Peace Corps volunteers who then instructed Malian farmers about how to combat the Cowpea pest problem. I was first of many groups that then followed and continued this research. Along with the research I seemed to have discovered a lot more. I experienced things I never would have thought possible. I met people along the way that have impacted my life in such a positive way. I also experienced the other side, the difficulties the native people in Mali face, the poverty. Despite those difficulties I also discovered the profound happiness, pride, and wisdom of these people. I will never forget the experience and am grateful I was given the opportunity through Chief Dull Knife College and other partnering programs. Janelle Beartusk  7/27/15 Former Intern
